Indeed, the Canadiens made two trades, first sending Alex Romanov to the Islanders for the 13th overall pick, and then trading that pick to the Blackhawks for Kirby Dach.
When we talk about creativity, it's a great example, and Kent Hughes has plenty of it.
Now that we know the Canadiens are very interested in young Martin Necas and the Hurricanes are looking for an established player and/or a goalie, Kent Hughes doesn't have what it takes, but that could change.
Now, this gets interesting. The Canadiens need to move defensemen, and there are several teams looking for them.
The Canadiens GM could trade one or more defensemen for a goalie that the Hurricanes covet, and then trade that goalie for Martin Necas.
We see this kind of trade fairly regularly in the NHL. Three teams exchange needs, or there's a third party involved to retain salary. In either case, Kent Hughes is a master at it.
I love the idea, and Kent Hughes is no stranger to surprising us. He loves to create these kinds of transactions.
The first name that comes to mind is John Gibson. For example (the Ducks don't necessarily need defensemen), Hughes could trade a defenseman to Anaheim for Gibson, and then trade Gibson to Carolina for Necas.
