Matthews, already a known figure within the organization and a solid right-handed defenseman, will be one to watch this coming fall in Ron Choules' lineup.
Lukash Matthews signs with the Trois-Rivières Lions, adding to the Montreal Canadiens' defensive prospects for next year
See the official statement.
At 23 years old, Matthews hails from Ottawa. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound right-handed defenseman likes to assert himself physically in front of the net and in the corners. He is not known for his offensive skills, as evidenced by his 10 games without registering a goal or an assist.
He played 10 games with the Lions in 2023-24 after scoring 8 points in 20 games with Carleton University in the Ottawa area.
He is a solid defensive defenseman who can make a significant impact in the corners with his physicality.
Details to follow.
In recent weeks, the Trois-Rivières Lions have signed numerous players who should help the team be more competitive in 2024-2025. Earlier this week, offensive forward Tommy Cormier, who turned heads in the Victoriaville Tigres uniform during his time in the QMJHL, is expected to get his chance in the Lions' top six. His high offensive potential should help the Lions score goals this year, addressing one of last season's weaknesses.
