Bad news: Arber Xhekaj loses a mentor within the organization
Arber Xhekaj had a rollercoaster season, mixing injuries, disappointment from being sent down to Laval, achievements upon his return to Montreal, and another injury.
He went through a whole range of emotions in just one season, but he was very well supported.
Among the key figures who were there for him, Laval Rocket assistant coach Kelly Buchberger played a significant role. There were talks that he could join Martin St-Louis' team and the Canadiens because of how appreciated he was, but that won't happen.
The Rocket just announced that he is leaving his position.
"The Laval Rocket announced that assistant coach Kelly Buchberger will not be returning for the 2024-2025 season.
Thank you for everything, Kelly, and best of luck with the Devon Xtreme in the Alberta Junior Hockey League."
- Laval Rocket
It's a significant loss for the organization, but if he made this decision, it's certainly for his own good.
We wish him the best of luck, and who knows, perhaps he'll return to the Canadiens organization in the future!
