Big steal by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens for Patrik Laine?
Among the players available on the market and linked to the Canadiens, the name Patrik Laine is coming up more and more, as he has requested a trade from the Blue Jackets.
The fit would be good with the Canadiens, as the risk isn't too high since he only has two years left on his contract. His salary is $8.7 million, which is a concern.
Good friends and even better analysts Arpon Basu and Marc Antoine Godin have given an idea of the price to pay for Laine, and it could be a real steal for the Canadiens.
«I see a fit for Patrik Laine in Montreal. It's a reasonable risk, and I'm certain Columbus would be willing to retain a percentage of his $8.7 million contract. [...]
The Canadiens have some wiggle room. Maybe instead of asking Columbus to retain part of his salary, they could include a player like Christian Dvorak and get rid of his contract for the next season. I think there are many ways to make a trade like this, but I really think it's a good risk to take.»
- Arpon Basu «[He could] instead ask the Blue Jackets to make a trade between the fourth and fifth draft picks. A situation which, according to Arpon Basu, would be a very reasonable price for Columbus who would only drop one spot to get rid of Patrik Laine's $8.7 million.»

If we understand correctly, Laine would have a negative value on the market and the Canadiens could move up one spot in the draft to acquire him, or give up Christian Dvorak's bad contract.
In both cases, it would be a steal by Kent Hughes, and I would accept it immediately.
