Bullying: Logan Mailloux was allegedly a victim among his own teammates
Logan Mailloux made significant progress last year, and his season with Laval taught him how to become a true professional.
However, he learned some tough lessons, as his teammates reportedly targeted him on several occasions. In professional hockey, being late is unacceptable unless there is a very good reason. When these occurrences become frequent, measures need to be taken.
The methods, however, are questionable, as Logan Mailloux's teammates allegedly cut his skate laces multiple times, among other things.
"I really enjoyed covering the Rocket last year and talking to JF Houle. This might be news to some people, but JF Houle was incredibly candid during interviews. To the point where I wondered if it would bother the Montreal Canadiens' management.
I remember one time he told me that the veterans were sending a message to Mailloux because he was arriving late to practices. They were cutting his skate laces, etc. I was like, 'Why are you telling me this?'"
- Nicolas Cloutier, TVA Sports The former Rocket head coach added:
"The guys went after him a couple of times. I think it wakes you up as a player. [...] He got the lesson."
- Jean-François Houle
Personally, I don't think the line was crossed, although we don't have all the details. Logan Mailloux learned well and grew from it, but many people are against the methods used to teach him this lesson.
The good news is that it pushed the defenseman in the right direction, and he had an excellent rookie season. Hopefully, he'll be able to secure a spot with the Canadiens this year!
