Bye bye Michael Matheson? An enticing offer has surfaced
If there's one player who has benefited from a change of scenery, it's Michael Matheson since he joined the Canadiens.
The defenseman has been outstanding over the past two seasons, especially the last one, where he finished 9th in the NHL for points by a defenseman.
It's needless to say that he doesn't play with stars and has faced the best in the league all season. It's very impressive.
The problem for Mike is that there are many left-handed defensemen with the Canadiens, and he will have to make room sooner or later.
Mathias Brunet floated the idea of trading him for the Devils' 10th overall pick.
New Jersey has been very active after acquiring Jacob Markstrom and they are looking for a left-handed defenseman.
«It's interesting that you're talking about the 10th overall pick.
From what I hear, the Devils are looking for a left-handed defenseman, so if they can bite on Matheson, if you give Matheson - and maybe something more, since he only has two years left on his contract - to get the 10th overall pick [via trade] to Montreal, I hope New Jersey bites, in the current context of the Habs.» - Mathias Brunet, via BPM Sports
Matheson is very useful to the Canadiens, but he is at his highest value right now. If Kent Hughes really has the offer to get this year's 10th overall pick, he should, in my opinion, jump at the opportunity.
