Canadiens: big news about Lane Hutson and setback for Filip Mesar
Lane Hutson signed his entry-level NHL contract on Friday and will join the team in Detroit. The defenseman made another big decision afterward.
Indeed, Lane Hutson is taking Filip Mesar's current number and claiming it as his own. This means the Slovak prospect will have to find a new number at the next training camp.
Since Mesar has never played a regular season NHL game, he doesn't count among the players who have worn number 48. Hutson becomes the 6th player in the team's history to wear the number.
"Lane Hutson will be the 6th player in Habs history to wear number 48.
Daigneault 1990-96
Groleau 1996-98
Guren 1999-2000
Wyman 2010
Brière 2014."
- Étienne Ferland
By joining the team in Detroit, Hutson will likely have one or two games to get a feel for the NHL. The young player is strong, and it will be great to see where he stands in his development.
