Chantal Machabée opens her heart, and it's terribly sad and scary
Whether in her role as a journalist or now as VP Communications for the Canadiens, Chantal Machabée has always been appreciated for her work by the majority of people.
However, for others, she was not in her place. Chantal receives a lot of good, but also some bad, and during her appearance on the podcast "La Poche Bleue," she opened up about it.
A woman so upright, so respected, being treated like this, I simply can't believe it.
"When covering the Montreal Canadiens, the NHL, I was more exposed, if you can say that, but I was also more exposed to criticism and threats, but also more exposed to compliments. So you take the good, but you also have to take the bad that comes with it. It hasn't always been easy, it's even been very difficult at times, but guys, that passion that I still have today, it has never faded even though I've experienced very difficult moments. You know, I've had death threats, twice, very seriously [very serious death threats]." - Chantal Machabée
At home, everyone was worried, including her children. It was very serious and it was scary. No one should have to endure death threats, especially for such a stupid reason.
She was blamed for stealing a man's job. As if her qualities as a journalist and her knowledge of hockey couldn't be as good, if not better, than those of a man. It's ridiculous.
Just when we thought it couldn't get worse, she continued to open up.
"I could show you the messages I receive, sometimes it's completely mind-blowing." - Chantal Machabée
It still goes on today! She still has to endure ugly comments, even though she has shown everyone that she is so competent and hardworking that she was hired by the Montreal Canadiens.
I know that even if we raise awareness, it won't stop. People are very brave behind a screen. However, let's hope that the number of hateful messages she receives is limited.
