Despite his potential to score over 30 goals each season until the end of his contract in 2031, Caufield remains a rare asset.
Martin Necas is a good player and plays center, but he's not a natural scorer like Caufield. I'm very torn about this trade, and I would have a hard time accepting such an exchange. However, according to analyst Antoine Roussel, it should be done.
Remember that Necas is a restricted free agent, without a contract, and Kent Hughes can only sign him for up to 7 years, equivalent to the remainder of Caufield's contract.
Firstly, I wouldn't trade Caufield, and secondly, the Hurricanes want to trade Necas for salary reasons, so why would they accept a contract worth $7.85 million until 2031?
I like Roussel and find most of his analyses fair, but this one is an exception.
I would be very surprised if Kent Hughes trades Cole Caufield in the short term. To do so, it would require an offer impossible to refuse, and Martin Necas is not sufficient.
