The Los Angeles Kings made a significant mistake by paying a high price for Pierre-Luc Dubois and then letting him go for almost nothing, which the Canadiens are trying to avoid.

Indeed, letting Dubois go isn't the big mistake, but offering so much and giving him such a big contract was an error. Kent Hughes wisely refused to go that far, and we thank him for it.

Another forward on the verge of being traded by the Kings is Arthur Kaliyev. His name has been linked to the Canadiens, and there's a lot of speculation about a possible trade.

"Wiping the slate clean and starting fresh is the best option for both parties, but who knows if that option is on the table. The Kings reportedly tried to trade Kaliyev during the draft but didn't find a taker. However, things change after the free agent market, and he could start garnering interest as we approach training camp." - Austin Stanovich

It's clear that Kaliyev isn't a top-tier player, so trading him during the draft might not have been the best timing.

However, we learn that Kent Hughes is interested, and when looking at Kaliyev's profile, it makes a lot of sense.

"The Canadiens are in the middle of a basement-to-ceiling rebuild, and the general manager of the Habs, Kent Hughes, will likely see Kaliyev as a gamble worth taking. Moving to the Montreal market would place Kaliyev in a higher-pressure environment, but some players need that spotlight to push them to realize their potential, and Kaliyev could be that type of player." - Adam Proteau

Rumors suggest trading Kaliyev for Emil Heineman. There's another really exaggerated proposition involving Arber Xhekaj in a trade for Kaliyev, but that's unreasonable. Kent Hughes would never do that, and Xhekaj's value is far superior.

Don't be surprised if a trade is confirmed in the coming days. Kaliyev might even arrive in Montreal, in a much more favorable environment for him.
