Contract extension offered to Arber Xhekaj by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens: A proposal is on the table from analyst Norman Flynn
Kent Hughes will have his hands full this summer, especially in finding offensive help and potentially trading a goaltender if not done already.
Another hot topic will be the contract extension for Arber Xhekaj. The defenseman will be a restricted free agent, and analyst Norman Flynn had a rather sensible proposal for his next contract.
"I would give him a contract of 1.5 to 2 million dollars per season for three years." - Flynn, regarding Xhekaj's next contract
As Xhekaj is progressing well and seems to be coming into his own, Hughes could make a significant move by signing him on these terms.
It wouldn't be a substantial financial risk or a big commitment, especially considering his high value in the trade market.
Certainly, the Canadiens' GM will have to get this deal done, and I hope it happens sooner rather than later. Before July 1st would be ideal!
