Daniel Brière made a serious mistake and Brendan Gallagher is indirectly involved
Since taking office, Kent Hughes has signed very favorable contracts for his players, unlike his predecessor, Marc Bergevin.
While the former general manager made some excellent moves, his bad contracts are still painful for the organization today.
Carey Price is still being paid $10.5 million for two years, Josh Anderson $5.5 million for three years, and Brendan Gallagher $6.5 million for three years.
Speaking of Brendan Gallagher, Frank Seravalli recently used his bad contract as an example, involving Daniel Brière.
The Flyers' GM signed Travis Konecny for eight years at $8.75 million per year.
"It's a very difficult contract. Travis Konecny is a slightly more talented version of Brendan Gallagher."
When you think about it, players like Sidney Crosby and Nick Suzuki, among many better players, earn less than him; it's quite shocking.
I don't know what Daniel Brière had in mind or what he saw in Konecny's game, but one thing is certain: the Flyers could regret this deal for a long time.
