For several years now, the Montreal Canadiens' special teams have struggled, and Kent Hughes is well aware of this. There have been rumors of dismissals throughout the season.

Indeed, the main person being pointed out is Alex Burrows, who is in charge of the power play. Although this aspect of the game has improved in recent weeks, it is clearly insufficient.

Kent Hughes has admitted that there is a problem in this area and that improvement is needed, but he will not change his current staff. This means that Burrows should not lose his job.

"Kent Hughes likes his coaching group and does not believe he needs an experienced assistant coach to complete the group."

- Renaud Lavoie, TVA Sports

The general manager then stated that he intends to extend the contracts of Letowski, Burrows, and Raymond.

"Kent Hughes says he'll meet with St. Louis and the coaching staff tomorrow. Burrows, Letowski and Raymond all need new contracts."

- Eric Engels, Sportsnet

This is very good news for Burrows and company, and for the team as a whole. Progress was clearly visible in the second half of the season, even though it was far from perfect.

It's as a unit that the Canadiens will become better, and the coaching staff is part of that.
