Hot Topic and Key Acquisition by Kent Hughes: The Verdict Will Officially Be Out in a Few Hours for Evgeny Kuznetsov
As you may have heard, the Washington Capitals surprised the hockey world on Saturday by placing forward Evgeny Kuznetsov on waivers.
We all know the immense talent of the center, who can still play in the NHL's top 6 today. However, even though his contribution would be direct with the Canadiens, he commands a significant salary of 7.8 million for the next season.
There are already rumors that the Avalanche would want to trade Ryan Johansen to the Canadiens for Jake Allen, and this transaction does not materialize according to many because Kent Hughes does not want to be stuck with Johansen's $4 million salary next year.
It would be very surprising to see the Canadiens claim Kuznetsov, but it's still possible, especially if Kent Hughes has a plan in mind.
Imagine the GM retaining some of the player's salary for a contending team to acquire him in exchange for a prospect. It's within the realm of possibility, and we will know at 2:00 PM.
