That's what Tony Marinaro just did, and he has good reason to say so. Without claiming that Lane Hutson will one day have his jersey retired at the Bell Centre, he believes that he will be the first since Larry Robinson to have a point-per-game season.
Let's be clear, Larry Robinson was quite the defenseman, with a stellar career as both a player and a coach, winning six Stanley Cups as a player and one as a coach.
He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and recorded 958 points in 1,384 NHL games, which is excellent for a defenseman.
Lane Hutson has a long way to go to reach that level, but according to Tony Marinaro, he will at least once achieve the milestone of a point-per-game.
We'll give him time to play his rookie season, and we may be able to make a judgment afterward, but one thing is certain: expectations are high for the young defenseman, and he certainly has the talent to meet them.
Now, the question remains whether his small stature will prevent him from producing at an impressive rate. He will surely be targeted by opposing teams, and he will need to find a way to protect himself and avoid injuries.
