The forward has been quite reserved about his reasons, but he clearly believes he would be happier elsewhere.
There have been negative comments about his attitude and possible issues, but it seems there might be more to the story. Mathieu Perreault, who played with him for four years in Winnipeg, had only positive things to say about him, as did many others. Pascal Vincent, who was his coach in both Winnipeg and Columbus, also spoke highly of him.
Now, Craig Button has weighed in. On Tony Marinaro's podcast, the analyst addressed the situation once and for all. According to Button, Laine's request for a trade wasn't due to any attitude problems.
Button's point is that, in his view, there was nothing exciting about being part of the Blue Jackets organization. Ouch!
Personally, I don't think that's how Patrik Laine feels, but a change of scenery was needed for him. It might not have had anything to do with the organization or the city.
What's important to note is that positive testimonies about Patrik Laine are becoming numerous, while his critics are starting to quiet down. This is significant for the Canadiens.
