The Canadiens faced Sidney Crosby's Penguins on Monday night, and it meant the first time the Penguins captain faced Lane Hutson.
It's certain that for the young defenseman, playing against a childhood idol like Crosby is special. It will probably be the same when he plays against Alex Ovechkin and several current NHL legends.
Lane obviously knew he was facing Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kristopher Letang on Monday night, but what he didn't know is that the Penguins' stars had very good things to say about him.
Indeed, the Pens captain was asked about the Canadiens' young sensation and his words barely concealed a certain admiration.
I skated with him (Lane Hutson) last summer. I saw some sequences. He looks very comfortable. He's a great skater, he keeps the puck, he makes a lot of plays. He seems very confident on the ice... he's really good.
- Sidney Crosby
Lane Hutson didn't even know Crosby had said those words. Anthony Martineau told him, and of course, it was a great moment for the youngster.
We're talking about a very humble player here, despite his immense talent. That's good, since he's making his NHL debut and he has to earn respect first and foremost.
It's often said that the best know how to recognize the best, so these words from Sidney Crosby about the young Canadiens defenseman are all the more revealing.
We have a very special player in Montreal and already at such a young age, he's starting to be part of the game plan of the Canadiens' opponents.
