There were certainly many red flags surrounding the Russian player, especially his three-season contract in the KHL that started last season.
In other words, Michkov was not supposed to come to North America until the 2026-27 season, but that has just changed.
According to Hockey News Hub, Michkov's KHL contract has been terminated.
This means the young prodigy will arrive in the NHL much sooner than expected, and he could very well make the Canadiens and all the teams that passed on him regret their decisions.
Recall that Michkov was considered to be the second overall pick, but due to the red flags, he slipped to seventh.
We will see much sooner than expected if the Canadiens made the right choice by selecting Reinbacher, but if Michkov becomes a star in the NHL, it will be a grim realization for Kent Hughes and his team.
