Kent Hughes has found his new goalkeeper and bye bye Cayden Primeau?
The Canadiens have a much better team than in recent years and the goalie duo is also much better, while Samuel Montembeault has gained momentum.
Indeed, Monty has become a very solid goalie who is turning heads all over the NHL. He is in his zone and he is on a mission at the start of the season, as his record shows, as he has allowed only one goal in two starts.
It is more on the Cayden Primeau side that there are questions, and he was very weak against the Boston Bruins, which is far from reassuring. We expect him to be solid, but he is inconsistent.
This is what he is criticized for and it is certainly the reason why Kent Hughes was on Yaroslav Askarov's file this summer.
The Canadiens GM now has the chance to get his hands on a good No. 2 goalie in the NHL, with Ville Husso available on waivers.
So teams have until 2 p.m. today to claim him, and the Canadiens are talking at No. 5, given that last year's reverse rankings count until November 1st.

We're talking about a goalie with a career record of 69-41-16. He had a great season in 2021-22 with a 2.56 GAA and a .919 save percentage.
Since then, he has played for the Red Wings, who are struggling to have success, so his stats are less stellar.
What is certain is that he would be a great help to Samuel Montembeault, simply because of his experience. Now it remains to be seen whether Kent Hughes believes he is better than Cayden Primeau and, above all, whether he is able to make room for him.
