Kent Hughes is preparing a trade for a young top 6 forward for the Canadiens, and it's significant.

It's the second year in a row that the general manager is doing this, following Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook, and he could pull it off again this year. He doesn't hide his intention to do so.

However, what we didn't expect is the possibility of improving their 2nd first-round pick to draft this player.

According to reports from Arpon Basu and Marc Antoine Godin, the Canadiens' brass had dinner with Cole Eiserman, and they hold him in high regard.

They raised the possibility that Hughes might trade their 26th overall pick to move up and select Eiserman.

"It's a significant hint suggesting that they will try to move up in the first round high enough to get [Eiserman]." - Marco Normandin

This is a major statement, and it's the kind of move Kent Hughes would make. He likes to work out a trade for a specific purpose.

Eiserman broke Cole Caufield's record in the US program with 58 goals in 57 games, totaling 89 points.

He is one of the youngest players in the 2024 draft, being born on August 29th. That's something to consider, as he could easily be considered a top pick in 2025 if he were born just a few days later.
