He's consistently approaching a point per game, which is starting to meet the criteria for a strong number-one center, and he's only 24 years old.
However, according to several analysts and observers, the captain might be better suited as an excellent second-line center rather than playing on the top line. Kent Hughes is believed to have already acquired his top replacement.
According to James Iacovone, a Philadelphia podcast host, Ivan Demidov should be used as a center and could be a very special player. Why does he mention Demidov? Because he compares him to Matvei Michkov.
While the host obviously favors Matvei Michkov since he's a Flyers prospect, he has highlighted some strong points about Demidov.
According to him, Demidov is more focused on distributing the puck and playing a complete game rather than just waiting for passes. He's an excellent playmaker and can score when the opportunity arises.
With the potential Demidov has, he could very well take Suzuki's spot on the top line in the future. It's still a few years away, but the Canadiens would be wise not to hinder the young player's development if he turns out to be an exceptional center.
