According to Mark Madden, the defenseman reportedly asked the Penguins to trade him to Montreal, and there have even been discussions between Kyle Dubas and Kent Hughes on the matter, though nothing has come of it.
When you think about it, it makes perfect sense. At the 2022 NHL Draft, Kristopher Letang openly expressed his desire to finish his career in Montreal.
A few hours later, he signed a 6-year extension worth $6.1 million with the Penguins, but that doesn't mean he won't be traded.
Moreover, the future of the right side of the defense belongs to Erik Karlsson, not Kristopher Letang, in Pittsburgh. The veteran could be an excellent mentor for the Canadiens' young players until they are mature enough.
Lane Hutson, Logan Mailloux, David Reinbacher, and several others could greatly benefit from the guidance of this future Hockey Hall of Famer.
In short, Kristopher Letang is currently in Montreal and will be at the Complexe hockey Etcetera tonight. He will inevitably be asked about this rumor, and we are eager to hear his response.
However, don't expect him to provide too many details; he might even deny the rumor. Since he is currently under contract, admitting such information publicly could be detrimental to him.
Nevertheless, I expect him to reiterate his love for Montreal and his desire to finish his career in a Canadiens uniform.
