Major acquisition by Kent Hughes and home run: Nikolaj Ehlers weighs In
Kent Hughes has become known for making big personnel moves in August and September, which is not typical in the National Hockey League.
But the Montreal Canadiens ' GM never stops working. He is constantly involved in all matters, and even the acquisition of Patrik Laine was far from anticipated.
Indeed, Kent Hughes was working to bring Martin Necas or Trevor Zegras to Montreal before acquiring Patrik Laine. Nikolaj Ehlers, a former teammate of Laine, had some very kind words about him.
"I'm proud of him. Everyone knows it's not easy to go through certain trials, and what he's been through could have happened to anyone. I love this guy. I still talk to him. Seeing him play in Montreal now is going to be really cool for him. It's a city that loves hockey. He loves hockey. I think he'll do well there."
- Nikolaj Ehlers on his friend Patrik Laine
Nikolaj Ehlers has requested a trade from the Jets, but it hasn't happened yet. According to HFTV, the Danish player's comments suggest he might be envious and would like to join the Canadiens himself.
I would be very surprised if Kent Hughes were tempted to bring Nikolaj Ehlers to Montreal. He is excellent, but with the arrival of Ivan Demidov, Michael Hage, and several others in the coming years, patience is key.
If the Canadiens were in a position where they needed to win now, the discussion would be different, but for now, it will be a few more years before considering the team a contender.
