The Canadiens have a solid prospect pool at all positions, but they lack punch in the attack. They need more goals, so another natural scorer is needed.

It so happens that Kent Hughes is doing his homework, and according to Elliotte Friedman, a sharpshooter from the KHL could be heading to Montreal.

Maxim Tsyplakov scored 31 goals in 65 games with Spartak Moscow this year. Kent Hughes personally met with him, and rumors suggest he could be heading to either Montreal or Toronto.

"Elliotte Friedman, on the latest episode of his podcast, confirmed the interest of the Maple Leafs, while adding that other teams were also pursuing him.

And the only other team that Friedman mentioned this morning (saying they had met with the player) is the Canadiens. You know, that team that needs reinforcement up front?" - Via DansLesCoulisses

The 25-year-old forward is expected to make a decision this week, so his signing could be announced in the coming hours.

We know that the Canadiens GM went to Europe on the sidelines of the World Championship. He probably took the opportunity to see Tsyplakov and start his charm offensive.

If he really signs in Montreal, it could be a big coup for Kent Hughes. We're talking about a 6'2", 189 lbs left winger.

Is Jeff Gorton looking for his new Artemi Panarin at a lower price? This is something to keep an eye on.
