Major surprise and David Savard traded this summer by Kent Hughes?
At the last trade deadline, David Savard was finally able to relax, as Kent Hughes did not trade him.
A mid-season trade is not easy for anyone, and a seasoned and respected veteran like Savard at least deserves to prepare for it.
That's why he publicly asked that Kent Hughes inform him in advance. We know the GM is attentive to his players and their requests, and once again, he respected that.
However, during the summer, things are different. Players have more time to prepare for such an eventuality, and this could well be the case for David.
According to Frank Seravalli, the veteran defenseman is currently on the market, as is his teammate Christian Dvorak.
While Dvorak isn't very attractive when you look at his contract and performances, it's quite the opposite for Savard, who is in high demand.
"Scoop: Last summer, the Habs traded another veteran defenseman in Joel Edmundson on July 1st, in exchange for third and seventh-round picks.
Savard is in a different position as a right-handed defenseman, where there is strong demand, but the Canadiens are also in a bind this time.
They will need a veteran presence to help guide the young players in their lineup this season, but Montreal is also in a logjam on defense, with many young players coming up. The Canadiens will listen to offers for Savard, even if they end up keeping him all summer, to start the early conversations before next year's trade deadline."
Frank Seravalli Whether Savard leaves this summer or at the trade deadline, one thing is certain: he already knows his days in Montreal are numbered.
Kent Hughes will not only try to get the maximum return but also send David to a city he likes, without a doubt.
The organization's young defensemen need a role model like him (Logan Mailloux, Arber Xhekaj, Lane Hutson, David Reinbacher), but if Hughes gets his price before the start of the season, he will certainly complete a trade.
