Monster contract for Juraj Slafkovsky: he breaks the silence and it's big
On Monday, during the opening of the free agency market, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens announced an eight-year contract extension for Juraj Slafkovsky.
It was the first day of eligibility to reach such an agreement, as his current entry-level contract ends next season.
Many were surprised that Juraj signed so quickly, and I must admit I was too. If he had waited until the end of next season, he could have definitely secured more money.
Slafkovsky addressed this question during a press conference in recent hours, responding promptly with his usual transparency.
"I knew I wanted to re-sign. For me, it's not about the money; I just wanted to stay (...)
The important thing was the eight years. If I had wanted more money, I could have waited. It's done now, and I can focus on my game and winning. That's the most important thing for me!"
- Juraj Slafkovsky
The culture of the Canadiens is truly extraordinary, and it's with this culture that victories will come. Players accept smaller salaries, but little by little, they increase their chances of winning in the long term when all the pieces of the puzzle are in place.
Juraj has sent a message to the future stars of the organization by accepting this contract, just as Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield did before him.
In the salary cap era, to have a competitive team and win, everyone has to contribute. And that's what's happening before our eyes with the Canadiens.
