Captain Nick Suzuki had a difficult first few games, but after four games, he still has 3 points, while he is aiming for a point per game.

He still hasn't found the back of the net, but he is starting to come out of his shell and the Canadiens will need it. He is still the best player on the team to this day and he must act like it.

Nick has not missed a single game since the beginning of his career, he has always progressed each season in terms of points per game and he is becoming a reference in all facets of the game.

His behavior on and off the ice is impeccable, except perhaps for one small thing that is starting to make some people criticize.

Indeed, the captain had promised to learn French, but he still does not speak in the language with the fans.

I don't understand why Nick Suzuki, the captain, has not learned French in five years! Serge Savard went to Russia for two weeks for the Summit Series and had learned a few phrases in Russian.

- Brendan Kelly

For the record, Brendan Kelly is an English-speaking journalist for the Montreal Gazette who has a book in French. So he knows what he's talking about. His book is precisely about the importance of French for the Montreal Canadiens.

It was after the book came out that Journal de Montréal journalist Marc De Foy went to talk to Nick Suzuki one-on-one, to put him in a less vulnerable position and hear his version.

"My french is pretty good," he said, looking me straight in the eye.

Chantal Machabée, who was there, corroborated.

So why not start giving interviews in French?

"Maybe one day," Suzuki said.

"I don't know if I'd be able to speak full sentences in French."

A bit like Saku Koivu, who has never done an interview in French and who has been criticized for it his entire career, it seems that Nick Suzuki is afraid to speak French.

It's really too bad, because the people of Quebec are always very happy to see someone make the effort to speak French and most people will help him and congratulate him instead of laughing at him.
