In recent weeks, there have been numerous rumors surrounding goaltender Yaroslav Askarov and the Canadiens, and Pierre LeBrun has just confirmed this.

Indeed, while it was thought that the tandem of Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau would last until Jacob Fowler's arrival, it appears that may not be the case.

The rumors about Yaroslav Askarov in Montreal have been persistent, to the point where many believed it could happen. According to Pierre LeBrun, it nearly did.

"Last month, the San Jose Sharks outbid four main competitors to acquire Yaroslav Askarov: the Carolina Hurricanes, the Montreal Canadiens, the Colorado Avalanche, and the Philadelphia Flyers."

When information comes from a well-connected insider like Pierre LeBrun, it's likely that he received this confirmation directly from Barry Trotz, the Predators' GM.

To match the Sharks' offer, the Canadiens would have had to give up Cayden Primeau, Owen Beck, and a 2025 first-round pick from the Florida Panthers. Ouch!

While Jacob Fowler will likely be with the Rocket in Laval next season and ready to move up the ranks, it's starting to get costly for a goaltender with similar potential, especially since the Canadiens are currently in a solid position in that role.

However, this does confirm that Kent Hughes is always on the lookout to improve the team whenever an opportunity arises.
