Plot twist: Ivan Demidov in Montreal this year? A door opens
Before even selecting Ivan Demidov, it was clear that he has a one-season contract in the KHL which he will honor.
Kent Hughes even mentioned this during his latest press conference, expecting the 5th overall pick in North America to join in a year.
However, there was a small caveat that was somewhat overlooked during the same press conference.
Indeed, Demidov is supposed to play for Saint Petersburg, but what happens if he isn't retained by the team?
"This season coming up, he's under contract at Saint PetersburgIf he's playing there in the KHL, that's a great environment for him for a yearIf he's not in the KHL, we have to see what the options are"
- Kent Hughes today on Ivan Demidov
Could the Canadiens bring him back if the young man isn't retained by SKA?
Personally, I find it hard to envision this outcome, but a door is definitely open with this comment.
Nevertheless, with the talent he possesses, there is little doubt about his eligibility with his KHL team. Not only will Demidov be good, he will excel in this league.
