Proposed blockbuster trade involving Mailloux and three others
The Canadiens are searching for young offensive talent, and it's logical for Kent Hughes to dip into his pool of defensemen to achieve this.
Indeed, there are currently too many defensemen for the present and coming years. It's understood that the GM won't get a huge return for Jordan Harris or Justin Barron either.
He will have to sacrifice one of his good defensemen sooner or later if he wants to complete a significant trade.
There is currently a trend on social media where journalists, analysts, and internet users put themselves in the shoes of the general manager to propose a trade.
Georges Laraque and Stephane Gonzalez have also joined the game. The excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin too, and his proposal is quite close to reality, in my opinion.
**"I would, however, try to include the 27th pick in a package to acquire Martin Necas. Otherwise, I could fall back on another option like Trevor Zegras.
The package would be WPG 1st + Logan Mailloux (yes, he will be good, but you have to give to get!) + another asset (player/pick/prospect). If that doesn't work, I would offer less to try to acquire a Dawson Mercer, Alex Holtz, or Jack Quinn."** Martin Necas is a solid young veteran of 25, who plays center or wing and is very productive.
His acquisition would align with Kent Hughes' plan, but it would cost Mailloux, according to Beaudoin.
This is clearly controversial. Logan is destined for a bright future in the NHL, but what good is having six excellent defensemen if the offense isn't improved?
Personally, I would be comfortable sacrificing the Canadiens' first-round pick in 2021 for a very good forward like Necas.
