Rutger McGroarty to Montreal: the truth comes out and a special request
Rutger McGroarty's name is linked to the Canadiens for well-known reasons, and it's even said that a trade fell through at the last minute during the draft.
Indeed, the Jets and the Canadiens are reportedly involved in this matter, but nothing has been done yet and time is running out.
McGroarty has outright told the Jets that he will not sign in Winnipeg, which forces them to trade him, otherwise they will lose him when he finishes his college career and becomes a free agent.
According to what we have just learned, it is not a question of a trade, but rather a request made by the player. In other words, Kent Hughes' offer to his Jets counterpart is good, but the Canadiens' GM cannot promise certain things to the player.
«While a trade seemed imminent at the last draft, all plans fell through. And it's not by chance, according to Winnipeg Free Press journalist Mike McIntyre.
In an interview with Andrew Paterson of the Winnipeg Sports Talk podcast, he revealed the reasons why McGroarty has not yet been traded.
According to his information, teams that wanted to acquire him were put off by the demands of the 20-year-old forward and his camp.»

McGroarty's demands are simple: he wants a guarantee to play in the NHL, considerable playing time, and power-play time.
For a rookie, this is what one might call being overly ambitious. The young player excelled in the NCAA and is quite a hockey player, but no GM can guarantee such things when he has not yet played a single game in the NHL.
It's understandable why the Jets did not accept these demands and why Kent Hughes has not completed the trade.
