It's truly a great idea from the organization and very good news that Toronto agreed. It's a win-win situation for both organizations to have the young players compete in one of the greatest rivalries in professional sports history.
The Maple Leafs Embarrass Themselves at the Bell Centre
We're not even talking about the game result here, as the Maple Leafs won in a shootout, but rather about an organizational decision.
The players wore practice jerseys for the game. A televised match against the Canadiens, watched by tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of fans, and the organization had them wear those.
The reason is quite simple: they believe that players must earn the right to wear the official Maple Leafs jersey before actually getting it. It's downright shameful to think this way as an organization.
I understand wanting players who cherish the logo and have heart, but this isn't the right way to achieve that, in my opinion. They simply came off as a bunch of amateurs.
After all, these are players who were drafted or invited by the organization. To then say they don't deserve to wear the uniform when they were chosen is inexplicable.
