Shocking statement about Carey Price and the Montreal Canadiens
No doubt about it; Carey Price is one of the greatest goalies to ever wear the Canadiens uniform. He literally carried the team on his shoulders for a decade.
It's really unfortunate that knee injuries have ended his career because he was truly dominant.
He, along with Henrik Lundqvist, is possibly the best goalie of his generation to not win the Stanley Cup.
But things could have turned out differently for Carey in Montreal. Let's remember his early career when he often went out and even got into trouble on a few occasions.
It seems like it lasted a little longer than we thought. Carey even needed help from the NHL's player assistance program for an alcohol problem.
If we go back in time a bit, when Stéphane Waite came on as his coach, we really saw progression in Carey. Renaud Lavoie revealed why.
"With the Canadiens, he also suggested to Carey Price to show a little more seriousness around the team on game days, and it was again the right approach, as the Canadiens' goalie seriously stepped up his game as soon as he arrived."
- Renaud Lavoie
We know Waite's outspokenness. He must not have hesitated to tell him what he thought and set him back on the right path. The rest, as they say, is history.
Carey had his best years and won just about everything possible for a goalie, except the elusive Stanley Cup.
