That was clearly stated by Jeff Gorton during his press conference Thursday night in Las Vegas. There are no more doubts within the front office.
It's remembered that the Habs met with three players yesterday: Cayden Lindstrom, Ivan Demidov, and Cole Eiserman. The focus seems to be on drafting a forward.
According to Corey Pronman, the Canadiens' pick at 5th overall is likely to be Cayden Lindstrom. However, he also believes Lindstrom will be selected by the Blue Jackets at 4th overall, so the Canadiens might be deciding between Ivan Demidov and Zeev Buium.
Ultimately, Pronman thinks Montreal has Buium ahead of Demidov on their list. Opinions may vary, but Pronman accurately predicted the selections of Kaiden Guhle, Juraj Slafkovsky, and David Reinbacherchoices that weren't obvious and set in stone. He has solid sources.
Buium is a very strong defenseman, no doubt about it, but can the Canadiens afford to pass on a forward like Demidov?
The fans' reaction could be uncontrollable if that happens.
It's certainly a statement that raises concerns. Personally, I've never hoped more that Corey Pronman is wrong in his predictions.
