While the tragedy involving brothers Matthew Gaudreau and Johnny Gaudreau is still fresh in the minds of all hockey fans in North America, and while there have been recent developments concerning the accident, they could have waited before discussing trade opportunities involving this team.
Considering the professionalism of the journalists and the site, it's likely that they didn't intend to disrespect the organization or the family. Without knowing their true intentions, it's understandable that fans might be unhappy about bringing up the subject so soon, but we are convinced that their intentions were noble and focused solely on the hockey aspect.
Following the terrible tragedy that took the lives of Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, the Blue Jackets will not be able to meet the NHL salary floor for the time being. This means that General Manager Don Waddell will have to shop for players to boost his payroll.
On the ground, the THN site simply wanted to remind everyone of this reality following the death of the Blue Jackets' star. The forward was set to earn $9.75 million next season.
The THN site took the liberty of speculating on a few players who could solve Don Waddell's problem in the short or medium term.
Four days after Johnny Gaudreau's death, it would have been better to wait a few more days, or even weeks. After all, the NHL season doesn't start until October.
In any case, I think the best solution would simply be for Gary Bettman to grant a special exemption to the Jackets following Johnny Gaudreau's death.
