Far in the memory of fans, the trade between the Washington Capitals and the Montreal Canadiens has just been officially concluded with the selection of Logan Sawyer and Makar Khanin.

In exchange for draft picks, Joël Edmundson had been sent to Washington on July 1, 2023. At the time, the Canadiens received third and seventh-round picks in 2024.

These two prospects might not play in Montreal next year, but it will be interesting to see what becomes of these notable picks. It's not uncommon for such a trade to result in what could be considered a steal a few years later.
Logan Sawyer and Makar Khanin, for Joël Edmundson
Aged 30 at the time of the trade, Joël Edmundson only played 53 games this season. Before the trade deadline, he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played only nine games in the blue and white uniform.
With the 3rd round pick, Kent Hughes and his team selected Logan Sawyer. Who is he?
The young forward was named the most valuable player of the latest BCHL playoffs, after scoring 7 goals and 8 assists (15 points) in 12 games. He has a very good hockey IQ and is very fast.
And with the 7th round pick, Kent Hughes and his team selected Makar Khanin.
At 19 years old, Khanin is a 5-foot-11, 161-pound forward. He amassed 27 points in 35 games this season in the VHL, the league below the KHL.
This completes the loop of this trade, and these are two names we will be watching closely in the coming years.
Do you think this is a good move by Kent Hughes?
