These rumors aren't just coming from the city. They're coming from all corners of the NHL. Several insiders and analysts firmly believe in them.
Numerous trade proposals have been floated, but now we have something concrete. Pat Verbeek, the Ducks' GM, just mentioned what's missing from his lineup, clarifying what he's looking for in exchange for Zegras.
And it's significant.
Verbeek wants a top 4 right-handed defenseman and a top 6 right-handed forward. The Canadiens have some possibilities.
Among defensemen, Logan Mailloux, David Reinbacher, and Justin Barron fit the criteria. However, in Barron's case, he'll need to elevate his game to convince Verbeek.
As for forwards, only Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Kirby Dach meet the demands, and Kent Hughes won't trade them. At least, I hope not.
Kent Hughes is creative, and he could probably find common ground with Verbeek, but aside from Barron, expect one of the other five names mentioned to be included in the deal.
In other words, I highly doubt it will happen unless Verbeek accepts draft picks or changes his criteria.
