Trade: Matthew Knies to Montreal in exchange for Logan Mailloux?
In Montreal, there are all kinds of speculations and trade rumors, but that's not the case here. Matthew Knies could have really been a Canadiens player instead of Logan Mailloux.
In 2021, when the defenseman was selected by the Canadiens amidst controversy, the player the Habs had their eyes on was Matthew Knies, who ultimately went 57th overall.
Since no team decided to take Mailloux and thus create controversy, Marc Bergevin decided to take the plunge.
"Well, we learned on Friday through Marc-Antoine Godin during the recent Friday episode of Tellement Hockey available on Radio-Canada that Knies could very well have been drafted in the first round, as the Montreal Canadiens had him on their radar.
In fact, according to Godin, the Habs were really torn between Logan Mailloux and Matthew Knies for their 31st pick in 2021.
If Mailloux hadn't been available at all, the Canadiens' choice would have been Knies." - Mathis Therrien, DLC
Knies is a big guy at 6'3" and 220 lbs. While not super productive, he steps up in the right moments and always works very hard.
I'm not at all disappointed to have Mailloux in Montreal. Once the controversy passed, he was an excellent choice, especially with the 31st pick.
However, if the management in 2021 had decided not to create waves and select "by the book," I wouldn't be disappointed to have Matthew Knies in the organization.
