Christian Dvorak has faced all sorts of troubles since joining the Canadiens, and there's growing anticipation for his contract to end.

It's important to remember that he's not one of Kent Hughes' players, and Marc Bergevin acquired him at a very high cost. His production hasn't lived up to expectations, and it's almost become a relief when he's injured.

It's sad to talk like this, as he's certainly a good person and well-liked in the locker room. It's well-known that he's especially close to Cole Caufield.

According to The Hockey Writers, Kent Hughes has no choice but to trade him, and it's even considered his last task before the start of the season.

"It's undeniable that the trade involving Patrik Laine created a logjam in terms of positions to fill on the roster, which should ideally allow Kent Hughes to trade Christian Dvorak.

In fact, it's probably the only offseason priority Hughes hasn't yet addressed - trading an excess forward. The five future free agents on offense are all replaceable to varying degrees.

Dvorak, who has the highest ceiling of the group and whose production has dropped since joining the Canadiens, is the top candidate to be traded."

Among the other upcoming free agents in July 2025, David Savard and Joel Armia are the most notable names, and both players are well-liked. I would be surprised if they leave before the season starts.

As for Christian Dvorak, it's unfortunate, but he no longer has a place in Montreal. He's blocking the spot of a younger player, and I hope that his salary won't be the only reason he's in the lineup - it should be based on merit, assuming he isn't traded.
