With the likes of Hutson, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Guhle, and company, the defense does not seem to be a problem for the team's future. However, the same cannot be said for the offensive side.
It's becoming increasingly clear that the management will need to make a trade to add some punch to the offense. In a recent episode of the podcast Processus, Mahias Brunet and Simon Boisvert analyzed a trade proposed by a listener.
Warning, the following lines contain speculations and not rumors
The proposed trade is quite simple and involves only one player from each side. Here it is:
Having acquired the elder Perreault earlier this season, the Canadiens could reunite the two sons of former Sainte-Flanelle player Yanic Perreault.
Selected 23rd overall in the 2023 draft, Gabriel is superior to his older brother. His game vision and hands make him a creative and unpredictable forward. He could become an important piece of Martin St-Louis's offense.
At 22 years old, Kaiden Guhle has already secured a regular spot in the Montreal Canadiens' top 4 and continues to progress.
However, trading Guhle for Perreault is a matter for consideration. According to Brunet and Boisvert, Kent Hughes would refuse, but his counterpart might accept such an offer.
Dubbed "the Snake," it's noted that this kind of transaction doesn't happen often in the NHL. It's very rare to trade an established player for a top prospect. The exception to the rule... The Philadelphia Flyers' first-round pick, Cutter Gauthier, was traded to Anaheim in exchange for Jamie Drysdale. However, Gauthier had acted out and refused to play in Philadelphia.
