John Tortorella is once again making headlines very intensely
John Tortorella is once again making headlines for a colorful press conference, a talent unique to him. This time, he was spectacular!
The head coach of the Flyers is undeniably good at his profession. He may not have the same approach as other coaches, but it works.
He won a Stanley Cup with the Lightning, took the Columbus Blue Jackets to the playoffs against all odds, and is on the verge of doing it again with the Flyers, a team everyone expected to be at the bottom of the standings.
In his press conference, he explained in great detail why he is good at what he does and why he acts the way he does. It's very interesting and makes you appreciate the character even more.
Here's his response to the Flyers' critics:
"It's nonsense! We're here! We're here (in the playoffs)! It's simple. We just need to be better, and I don't think we're ready to be even better yet.
And that's my problem with our team right now. And it's my fault! That was my job! I didn't do a good enough job of getting them to the next level.
That's my frustration with myself and with the team.
If some guys can't handle that, then that's it. [...]
Make no mistake about it. I'm extremely proud of our team, I love coming here and working with them, but it's my job to get them to the next level.
And in that sense, I've done a s****y job."
- John Tortorella
Despite his sometimes condescending demeanor, it's clear that Tortorella shoulders a lot of the blame and is no different with himself than he is with others.
One thing is for sure, despite the sometimes negative things said about him, his players are always very happy to play for him and respect him.
