Plot twist for Matvei Michkov and Daniel Brière
Many Canadiens fans were furious that the team did not select Matvei Michkov in 2023, something that Daniel Brière and the Flyers did.
The red flags scared Kent Hughes and his scouting team.
We even saw a sequence where Jeff Gorton asks them if they are comfortable passing on the Russian.
Nonetheless, we know the result, and the Flyers took him at the 7th spot. The possibility of seeing Michkov in the NHL before three years was almost nil, but that has just changed.
"There's a report out of Russia that Matvei Michkov «will continue his career next season in Philadelphia.
The Flyers are reportedly working to confirm the details of the report."
This means that against all odds, Michkov would turn his back on the KHL to pursue his career in the NHL two years earlier than expected, even though he is still under contract.
The story does not say whether it is an agreement or solely the young man's decision, but it is a major turn of events.
It also puts into perspective the Canadiens' fears and their selection at the 5th spot in 2023.
Let's hope they made the right choice with David Reinbacher, otherwise, we will be hearing about it for a long time.
