For what? Because thanks to the acquisition of the Pittsburgh Penguins' second-round pick for the 2025 draft, the Canadiens find themselves in a privileged position.
Currently in 30th position in the NHL, the Penguins seem far from a comeback, and this pick could turn into a valuable asset.
If Pittsburgh continues on its bad streak, this pick could even rise to the level of a late first round pick, a scenario that would be beneficial for the Habs.
So, to summarize, the Habs could have four picks in the top 40. These could certainly become interesting trade chips for Kent Hughes. Otherwise, drafting all of these players could improve the team's prospect pool.
But, of course, this entire strategy will depend on the performance of the Calgary Flames and Penguins.
The Canadiens will therefore have to keep an eye on these teams in the coming months.
Let's just say that the summer of 2023 was fruitful for the Canadiens in the Jeff Petry trade, and these future picks could further solidify their future.
Let's recall what the team obtained:
- A 2025 2nd round pick
- A 2025 3rd round pick
- A 2025 4th round pick
- Gustav Lindstrom
- Nathan Légaré
Is that what you call a home run?
