The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered yet another first-round exit, this time in a seven-game series against the Boston Bruins. Today, during the team's season-ending review, Auston Matthews addressed the media.

Firstly, Matthews confirmed that he was indeed injured and that this injury kept him out of Games 5 and 6.

Then, Matthews commented on the harsh criticism directed at his teammate Mitch Marner. He expressed his discontent with the negative narrative surrounding Marner and made it clear that they support him.

Auston Matthews: «In my time here, I've learned there's always a scapegoat. There's always a narrative. There's always something. We love Mitchy.» - Via Toronto journalist Luke Fox

He continued to defend Marner, indicating genuine support rather than merely providing a politically correct statement.

The Big Cleanup

A major overhaul is necessary in Toronto. It's hard to believe that everyone will remain in their positions, both on and off the ice, come September.

While it's unlikely that the star players will be traded, the names of Sheldon Keefe and Brendan Shanahan are circulating heavily. The head coach and the President no longer have unanimous support.

If Keefe loses his job behind the bench, keep an eye on Guy Boucher, who currently serves as his assistant and primarily handles the power play. He could become the next head coach of the Maple Leafs.
