Unfortunately, that's what reportedly happened to Auston Matthews, at least according to rumors. The team mentioned he was sick, but rumors suggested he was injured, possibly with a serious knee injury.
It happened during Game #4, and he left the game afterward, missing the next two games. When your team is down 3-1 in the series, it's tough.
Although the organization never confirmed he was injured, it seemed evident. No player wants to miss two games because of an illness, especially not in the playoffs.
He eventually returned for Game 7, but the Bruins won. Today is the season-ending evaluation day for the players and coach Sheldon Keefe, and Matthews commented on the situation.
So, it's confirmed he was injured. Now we'll have to see if it requires surgery. Knee injuries of this nature can be very serious. Kirby Dach is a prime example, having missed 80 games this season.
If the same fate awaits Matthews, the chances of seeing him in 2024 are slim. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
