When they say hockey players are tough, we just got sickening proof with Canadiens prospect Vincent Arseneau.

Arseneau, 32, is not exactly what we would call a prospect anymore, but he has been well established in the AHL since 2017 and has provided good service to the organization.

In Friday night's game against the Syracuse Crunch, Vincent Arseneau threw down the gloves and it went badly for him. He clearly broke his fingers and put them back on in front of the camera.

History doesn't say if he stayed in the game, but he is certainly a tough guy, one of the most feared players in the entire AHL. He had 9 points and 89 penalty minutes last year with Providence.

His role is very simple: protect youngsters like Logan Mailloux, David Reinbacher (when he returned), Adam Engstrom, Joshua Roy, Owen Beck and company.

Last year, the Rocket lacked this type of player, who can take one for the team. They went and got him and they also added Laurent Dauphin to add leadership.

John Sedgwick did a good job during the summer, and Arseneau quickly became a favorite of Pascal Vincent. Moreover, the coach is a very nice addition for the Rocket, who was vacated by Jean-François Houle.

Logan Mailloux was recalled by the Canadiens, but if he were to return to the AHL, I am sure that Vincent Arseneau will do everything to protect him, like all the other young prospects of the club. Hence the importance of his presence.

I sincerely hope he won't be injured for too long, or too seriously.
