After a hot start the last two seasons, the Boston Bruins are having a rather difficult start to the season this year.

With a record of 4-6-1 in 11 games so far, the team is currently tied for last place in the Atlantic Division with the Canadiens. But it is the Bruins' five-on-five play that is lacking as they are ranked 28th in the NHL in this regard since the start of the season, as reported by the site Habsolumentfan.com.

And let's just say the team hit rock bottom Thursday night with a crushing 8-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes and despite that thaw, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery remains confident that better days are ahead.

"We've had a lot of success the last two years. We were first in the league at Thanksgiving the last two years. We've never met our goals. Right now, we're not happy. Nobody's happy with what's going on, but we're going to get through this and we're going to be better. Hopefully that leads to better results in the playoffs."

According to the site The Score,Bruins star forward David Pastrnak shared his dissatisfaction with the game against the Hurricanes and reflected on the team's failures at even strength.

"We just weren't good enough at five-on-five. They were all over us. We have to do better."

That said, given the Bruins' slow start, there's some question as to whether Jim Montgomery's job is in jeopardy in Boston.

It's too early to make that claim, but if the team's performance doesn't pick up soon, we could see a major turnaround.
