Frank Seravalli, a well-known NHL insider, caused controversy with one of his comments about Johnny Gaudreau during his annual 2024-2025 season predictions column.

In this article, Seravalli predicted that the Columbus Blue Jackets would win the 2025 draft lottery, referring to it as a "consolation prize" in relation to Gaudreau's presence on the team. This sparked backlash, especially given the sensitive nature of recent tragedies in the hockey world.

Seravalli quickly issued a public apology, acknowledging that his comment was poorly worded and thoughtless. He emphasized that his intention was never to offend or shock anyone, especially in light of the recent losses within the hockey community, including the tragic deaths of John and Matty, which have deeply affected many in the sport.

In his apology, Seravalli expressed his regret and commitment to doing better in the future. He explained how touched he was by the recent tragedy and clarified that his words were not meant to add to the grief.

"Earlier today, in an annual season predictions column, I picked the Columbus Blue Jackets to win the draft lottery and included a comment about Johnny Gaudreau watching over them from above to bring luck.

What I wrote, and how my poor choice of words was received, was not meant to hurt or provoke anger.

As a member of the Philadelphia hockey community, I have been absolutely devastated by the passing of John and Matty - as so many others in the hockey world. This tragedy is a difficult topic we are all grappling with, and what I wrote was never intended to add to it. Simply put, I should not have linked the two. I'm sorry, and I promise to be better."

Seravalli's quick response and acknowledgment of the mistake helped address the situation, but the comment remains a reminder of the sensitivity required in such discussions, especially when dealing with emotional subjects like recent losses within the hockey world.
