Goodbye Gary Bettman at the head of the NHL: it may happen
It's been 31 years since Gary Bettman has been serving as the NHL commissioner. It's his league, and he dictates the rules.
The owners have all had their share of the pie over the years, but they're starting to get seriously fed up.
If Bettman is still there, it's because the 32 owners allow it. If the majority no longer want him, then it's game over.
According to Elliotte Friedman, that day is approaching, and it's directly related to his stubbornness regarding Arizona.
"It's going to be big. I've heard that a number of governors are not very happy about this. They understand that Bettman had to strike a deal, but they think Meruelo is getting off too easily."
Indeed, Meruelo received $1 billion for a franchise that played in a neighborhood arena. It's pitiful. Furthermore, Bettman reportedly has a 5-year agreement with Meruelo for him to build an arena and for the Coyotes to be reborn in Arizona.
The governors have had enough, and it's time for a change.
