Following contact with Jordan Greenway of the Buffalo Sabres, Reilly fell badly and hit his head violently against the ice. Even with a helmet, this type of contact is extremely dangerous.
Images that are difficult to watch and that clearly demonstrate that there is still a long way to go in professional hockey to eliminate concussions.
Fortunately, the contact was not illegal, but the result is very dramatic. The stretcher arrived quickly, but Mike Reilly was able to leave the ice on his skates.
We never like to see this kind of scene, and seeing the player who was completely unconscious on the ice get up like this and skate is very encouraging.
Let's hope that this event will not have too many after-effects on his health and that he can be back fairly quickly.
Mike Reilly played 90 games with the Canadiens over three seasons, collecting 3 goals and 20 assists for 23 points. He was used as a 6th or 7th defenseman quite a bit his entire career.
In 410 NHL games, he accumulated 122 points. He played for the Minnesota Wild, the Montreal Canadiens, the Ottawa Senators, the Boston Bruins, the Florida Panthers and the New York Islanders.
We wish him a speedy recovery and good luck for the future.
